Chobani founder Hamdi Ulukaya recently purchased San Francisco-based craft brewer Anchor Brewing company for an undisclosed amount, reports the Wall Street Journal. Ulukaya said he plans to keep the company in San Francisco.
The purchase included Anchor’s real estate and intellectual property, including the recipe for its steam beer, according to the report.
“This amazing place, this amazing brand has been around since 1896,” he said in a video he shared on social media on Friday. “The essence of San Francisco, the essence of this country is that we can always bring it back, stronger and better than ever.” Anchor shut down in 2023 due to falling sales; however, the recent transaction will allow operations to restart, according to the report. The specialty yogurt brand has been expanding its portfolio, adding creamers and oat milk offerings, and, in 2023, acquired coffee roaster La Colombe. (SFA)
