San Francisco, CA- Where and how are the best ways to soak up the rich summer sun in San Francisco in artistic and community-driven style? At the stunning SFMOMA, of course! This Thursday, September 18, the multilevel downtown landmark institution will be hosting their highly revered Rooftop Radio: (((folkYEAH!))) series, which platforms local musicians while also allowing attendees to peruse through all the artistic floors during coveted museum after hours.
This iteration will amplify DJ Andy Cabic before and between main acts of Bay Area-based headliners The Umbrellas and Fake Fruit. As the uniquely dreamy sunset basks the city skyline in golden September radiance, the museum’s external walls will also be illuminated with a live psychedelic visual projection by San Francisco–based visual artist Zachary Rodell.
There will absolutely be something for everyone and all energy and social levels at this can’t-miss artistic and musical extravaganza, solidifying SFMOMA’s status as a trusted inclusive hub that encourages creativity and community building.

Once the museum doors on 151 3rd St open at 5:30pm, expect the whole building to fill with the comforting sounds of local performances and convivial conversations surrounding their latest and greatest art installations. Ragnar Kjartansson’s lauded video installation The Visitors is a fleeting must-see as it is set to leave on September 28. As you traverse the expansive complex, simply follow the talented sounds up to the Jean and James Douglas Family Sculpture Garden outside on the fifth floor.
Here you will find the ultimate city haven that provides a serene reprieve from the downtown bustle, while still providing stunning elevated panoramic views. Special food and drinks will be available for cashless purchase, ensuring you are well energized for the electrifying show to come.

First on the main stage is The Umbrellas, whose groovy self-titled 2021 debut album and recent follow-up LP, Fairweather Friend, have propelled them to international prestige.
Keeping the soulful energy between sets is the inimitable DJ Andy Cabic who takes global inspiration from bossa nova to Japanese City Pop, keeping a precise ear to curating the consistent vibe.

Fake Fruit has been on the musical zeitgeist for nearly half a decade, exploding onto scene and garnering headlines from VICE, Bandcamp, and Pitchfork with their debut 2021 self-titled album. Formed by California native Hannah “Ham” D’Amato, the band rocks nervy post-punk guitars, biting commentary, and plenty of absurdist humor reminiscent of Riot Grrrl and UK post-punk revival.

The beloved (((folkYEAH!))) itself is a Northern California–based boutique music and events curator and presenter. For over 15 years, this coordinator has assisted in facilitating several heartwarming benefits and inspirational fundraisers to help support local artists all across the greater Bay Area, utilizing popular spaces such as The Chapel and even among the redwoods in Big Sur. Thanks to their tireless efforts, curated shows such as this upcoming one atop the SFMOMA feels intimate, grassroots, and locally empowering.

Whether you come for the art, music, or both, you are sure to round out your summer in San Francisco dancing with the most community-driven and supportive moves.
