BAGUIO, known as the summer capital of the Philippines, is perched high in the Cordillera Central Mountains. Also known as the City of Pines because of its abundance of lush, green pine trees, Baguio boasts cooler weather and other beautiful attractions.
Most visitors, though, say that the climate is not that cold as it used to be. Reason maybe because of the mushrooming of houses and business buildings being built on this tiny town. Add to that is the depleting of trees to give way to modernization, plus the climate change everyone is experiencing.
But still, people flock to Baguio not only to escape the heat of the lowlands, but also for nostalgia when families used to spend their many summers in this town.
When in Baguio, try to explore its many attractions: Camp
John Hay, Burnham Park, The Mansion, Botanical Garden, Mt. Pulag, Igorot Stone Kingdom, Mines View, Wright Park, the Grotto, places to eat, and many more. There’s also its famous Strawberry Farm where one can have the time of his life picking fresh strawberries for a minimal fee. Its famous ube halaya (sweet purple yam cooked in coconut cream) and strawberry jam by the nuns of Good Shepherd are to die for.
Your visit to Baguio will not be complete without carrying home a piece or of two walis tambo, a soft broom for cleaning floors and surfaces. Fresh vegetables such as, carrots, bell pepper, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet peas, pechay or bok choy, lettuce, chayote, and many more are everywhere for less prices. Be sure, though, to pick those that are not wrapped in plastic bags as they are easy to wilt.
