SAN JOSE – For the majority of the game the Spartans of San Jose State University (SJSU) controlled the scoreboard with a 10-point advantage going into the fourth quarter, 27-17.
That lead, however, quickly vanished as they fumbled.
Cardinal LB, Jahsiah Galvan, scooped it up for a Stanford touchdown. The unexpected turn of events gave Stanford its first lead of the game 31-27, after a 1-yard touchdown run by Cardinal QB, Ashton Daniels, on the drive resulting from a DB Collin Wright interception deep in Spartans territory.
Looking to add to their lead, Daniels threw a costly interception to Spartans DB Isiah Revis #20. With less than two minutes left in the game, Spartans quarterback Walker Eget, found an open wide receiver, TreyShun Hurry #2, a few feet into the endzone, for an 18-yard touchdown. The Spartans nailed the extra point through the uprights for a 34-31 victory over the visiting Stanford Cardinal.
The Spartans’ star wide receiver, Nick Nash #3, finished with two touchdowns, 9 yards shy of a hundred-yard game. QB Walker Eget finished the game with 348 passing yards, with the Spartans using their ground game for 61 yards. Two Stanford wide receivers, Elic Ayomanor #13 and Emmet Mosely #10, finished the game with 109 and 101 yards, respectively.
The Spartans with a 7-2 record are eligible for a bowl game, with predictions placing them in either the Hawaii or Arizona Bowl. Stanford concluded their season with a 3-9 record.
