Dubbed as super food, that’s avocado for you!

It’s the season for avocado. It’s everywhere. In the city, it’s a bit pricey, but in the province, you can have it at a cheaper price. Sometimes they are even given away for free, especially if you have neighbors who have avocado trees planted in their backyards.

Avocado is one fruit which you may eat as is. Or, mix with evaporated milk with a bit of sugar in it and put in the fridge to make it cold for that refreshing dessert. You may also top slices of avocado on vegetable salad for that healthy appetizer. Or, make a guacamole dip out of it. It’s creamy, tasty, and oh so yummy! Reason it’s one of the leading flavors for cakes, ice cream, ice candy, popsicle, and even fruit juice and milkshake.

But aside from being delicious, avocado is rich in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients our body needs. It is good for the hair, eyes, and skin because of its vitamin C and vitamin E contents. Loaded with antioxidants that fight free radicals in the body, avocado may also help support the immune system, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, prevent heart disease, certain cancers, and problems with the liver. It also provides vitamin K that is essential for bone health.

Avocado is a natural mouth wash. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help fight oral bacteria that lead to bad breath. High in fiber, avocado helps promote good bacteria essential for the health of the digestive system. Avocados, however, contain a higher amount of calories than other fruits and vegetables. So, if you are trying to lose weight, go easy on avocado.

Daily consumption of avocado is good for you. But make sure to stick to recommended serving sizes.
