Some of you might wonder why I take the time to content-curate community events that benefit the Filipino American community and the community-at-large. This is because mainstream media mediums do not often highlight what happens in our community.
I announce not only non-profit organized events or cultural happenings. In my social media posts, I pay attention to the shakers and movers who aim for positive change in the communities we serve. One of them is Marjan Philhour, a Filipina American candidate for Supervisor (District 1) in San Francisco. It is rare that I get to sit down and get acquainted with the person, not the politician. It was an honor and privilege to meet a political candidate who represents our API community with passion and grace. Marjan’s personal story (that I wrote) will be out there in the social media universe soon.
Together with three other co-editors, I am about to finish editing an anthology of stories, contributed by Overseas Filipinos and Overseas Filipino Workers worldwide. Their personal essays about their diaspora journeys are diverse and provocative. It will make an interesting read!
Our Filipino community’s activities open my eyes to an exhilarating world of endless celebrations and thought-provoking gatherings. Let me know if you decide to increase your involvement in some of our advocacies.
