Running from Thursday, May 9th to Sunday, May 19th, the opening night all begins with the premiere screening of “Admissions Granted” at the grand and historic Palace of Fine Arts Theatre. Directed by the incredibly talented Hao Wu and Miao Wang, this gripping documentary follows the journey leading up to a landmark Supreme Court case challenging affirmative action at Harvard University. Through compelling interviews, insightful archival footage, and creative animated sequences, this can’t-miss film will delve into the intersectional complexities of the affirmative action debate, revealing the divisions within the AAPI community and our nation’s increasing polarization on issues of race and inclusion. “Q” delves into the influence of a secretive matriarchal religious order in Lebanon on three generations of women, while “And So It Begins” provides an unflinching look at the political landscape of the Philippines amidst the reign of President Rodrigo Duterte. Both films offer poignant insights into the human experience and the enduring search for meaning.
