As word of the program spreads, Golden Gate University invites other Filipino American organizations, alumni, and professionals to join the effort—whether by sharing the program with their networks, hosting information sessions, or offering mentorship to new students.
San Francisco, CA – In a historic show of unity, key Filipino American organizations and leaders have come together to support the launch of the Filipino American Graduate Studies Cohort Program at Golden Gate University (GGU) — the first of its kind to focus on empowering Filipino American professionals through higher education.
This innovative pilot program offers a 20% tuition discount and corporate reimbursement opportunities for working professionals, with courses designed to be flexible, online, and culturally relevant. And at the heart of this initiative is a growing coalition of Fil-Am leaders committed to uplifting the community.
Al Perez, President of the Pistahan Parade and Festival (pistahan.net), brings decades of experience showcasing Filipino culture and identity on a national stage. With Pistahan’s vast platform that celebrates Filipino pride through arts, cuisine, and innovation, Al’s support is vital in connecting this academic opportunity to culture-forward professionals and youth leaders.
Genevieve Jopanda, President of the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) (fylpro.org), represents the next generation of changemakers. FYLPRO’s mission to build bridges between the Philippines and the diaspora aligns seamlessly with GGU’s program goals of professional advancement and community impact.
Jose Pecho, Past President of the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco (sffilamchamber.org), has rallied business owners and corporate partners to help amplify the program. As a longtime advocate for entrepreneurship and leadership development, Jose sees this as a critical opportunity to elevate Fil-Am professionals in the workforce.
Consul General Neil Ferrer, representing the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco (pcgsanfrancisco.org), has provided formal recognition of the program. The Consulate’s involvement signals the importance of this initiative in strengthening US-Philippines relations and investing in the diaspora’s educational advancement.
JR Calanoc, CEO of Dynamico Space (dynamico.space), a community-first coworking and workforce services platform, is helping activate local business clubs, tech professionals, and community networks to raise awareness. His platform connects global talent and community empowerment, making him an ideal partner in expanding the program’s reach.
