PALO ALTO — The Cardinals struggled with Cal Poly for most of the first half but a 90-yard punt return for a touchdown by Tiger Bachmeier early in the second half sparked Stanford to a 41-7 victory over the Mustang last Saturday.
Head coach Tray Taylor expected Bachmeier to catch the ball but luckily he didn’t. He made somebody miss and pick up an unbelievable number of great blocks and then showed off his speed.
Stanford scored 10 more points in the third quarter on a 32-yard Emmer Kenney field goal and a 5-yard TD pass from Asthon Daniels to tight end Sam Roush on a 4th-and-4 call. Daniels finished 19 for 23 yards and two TDs.
Early in the fourth quarter, freshman QB Elijah Browns took his first collegiate snaps and the game seemed like a snap.
He completed all five passes on his first possession, including a 51-yard hookup with running back Sedrich Irvin.
