Philippine Junior Karter of the Year Ryan Sy emerged victorious, bagging 4th Overall in the Juniors Class at the recently concluded Inf1nity IAME Series Asia. Competing against Asia’s best, the prestigious 6-leg karting series was held at the new LYL International Karting Circuit in Malaysia.
The 14-year-old Filipino was able to rack up enough points to secure an overall win despite only racing 5 of the series’ 6 rounds. Sy previously placed 4th in Round 2, 6th in Round 3, 7th in Round 4, 8th in Round 5. Among the top 5 overall podium winners are junior karters from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
The final round proved to be pivotal in Sy’s battle for an overall podium. Sy was able to land 4th in the time trials which eased him into finishing Heat 1 in 3rd. However, a scramble during Heat 2 led him to finish in 6th.
Not easily defeated, Sy’s resilience earned him a spot in 3rd during the Super Heat. His determination and consistency paid off in the end as he ended the finals event in 2nd place.
Coincidentally, the final round was also Sy’s first drive under Double R Motorsport Racing (DRM), a reputed powerhouse team based in Malaysia. Headed by veteran coach Mohd Rohairijaz, the team was also awarded Overall Team Winner for its stellar performance in all categories this year.
Following his successful campaign and winning an entry ticket, Sy will represent the Philippines in the Juniors Class at the upcoming IAME Asia Final. The event will be held at the Kartodromo De Coloane in Macau on Dec. 7-8, 2024.
Sy is backed by Motul Philippines (Infiniteserv Int’l), Domuschola, PCRC Racing Club, Bell, Max888 and Wraptech.
