The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, represented by Vice-consul Adrian Baccay, attended the unveiling of a painting by Philippine National Artist for Visual Arts Fernando Amorsolo — held at Sentro Filipino, SOMA Pilipinas District in San Francisco last September 30.
In his presentation, Sentro Filipino Executive Director Radi Calalang said that the 1947 Amorsolo artwork — unofficially titled “Woman with Mangoes” — was donated by Anna and Luke Fadem of the Salet family, in accordance with the Salet patriarch’s last will.
Amorsolo, the “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art” who became the Philippines’ first officially recognized National Artist in 1972, is best known for his backlighting technique and his depictions of the Philippine countryside.
