STOCKTON — Fresh off his scintillating pro debut just last month, Fil-Am Boxer Kyle “Masanting” Lacanlale ( from San Ramon) stepped right back into the ring and proved that it was no fluke, defeating Richard Antonio Luna ( from Glendale) by way of a third round technical knockout in a scheduled 4-round Super Bantamweight contest.
For a fighter with just two bouts under his belt, Lacanlale exhibits the craftiness of a seasoned pro. He stalked Luna from the opening bell but when Luna attacked, Lacanlale used his superior reach and counterpunch to great advantage.
Right before the end of the second round, Lacanlale caught Luna with a left hook to the head that shook Luna. Sensing he was in trouble, Lacanlale stepped up the pressure landing strong head and body shots. The fight culminated with four consecutive overhand right shots to Luna’s head before the referee stopped the bout 53 seconds into the third round bringing the crowd to its feet in appreciation. The bout was part of the “Nightmare at the Arena” boxing card headlined by local boxing star and Stockton native, Gabe Flores Jr. who defeated his opponent Dennis Contreras by way of a unanimous judges’ decision. Lacanlale looks to continue his boxing journey possibly next month in Mexico and another card in the spring of 2025. For up to date information, follow him on Instagram (@kyle.lacanlale)
