CONGRESSMAN Kevin Mullin of California District 15 led a community town hall meeting at the Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center headquarters in Daly City to comprehend and potentially improve his constituents’ current issues.
Several local members of the police department, Seton Medical Center, and more were in attendance, and after a warm introduction from PBRC president Perla Ibarrientos, Mullin began the hour by affirming, “it’s an honor to be with all of you.”
A freshman to Washington D.C. for seven months, Mullin openly acknowledged his newer status by solidifying his goals and current involvements, serving on committees such as national resources, and geographically isolated and therefore underserved Bayshore District, citizen safety, and climate change.
Mullin elaborated on how his first piece of legislation- the Weather Resilience Adaptation Program, or WRAP Act, is thoroughly designed to, “allow low-income home owners and owners of affordable housing units and mobile homes to make their homes more resilient against climate change.”
Human rights in the Philippines, and greater support for Filipino veterans were also platformed by the audience, to which Mullin further edified with his authoring of the Filipino Veterans Fairness act of 2022.
Described as “an ongoing effort,” Mullin hopes this legislation will “correct a historical inequity by treating all Filipino veterans who served in WW2 under U.S. commanders equally.”
