What a question, you’ll say. Who would know how long one would live? It is said that long before we are born, it is written in the palm of our hand when we will say goodbye to mother earth, right?
Yes, right! But according to Science one may add years to his life. Huh, how? By listening to your body and taking care of yourself. It’s a no brainer that if you’re the type who doesn’t give a damn to your health, the gate to heaven or hell is wide open for you. Joking aside, it pays to look out to your body, mind, and spirit to prolong your precious life. Here’s how.
- Right mindset. Have a positive attitude. A study during the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that people who have a high level of optimism live longer than pessimists. Positive thinkers tend to be focused, realistic, happy, kind, grateful, smile a lot, firm, see the good result in a bad situation, and always look at the bright future.
- Check your DNA. If the blood that runs through your veins comes from ancestors who have a lot of hereditary illnesses, it is likely that you may inherit them. So, check your family’s medical history. Protect your DNA by leading a healthy lifestyle to boost your immune system. Have a regular medical/physical checkup. Remember, prevention is key.
- Take care of your muscles. As you get older, you slowly lose muscle strength. Your arms and legs start to degenerate and you feel fatigued. So, eat the right food and exercise to build and strengthen muscles. Because without exercise or lack of it will result to muscle atrophy. Take Vitamin D supplement too, to help build muscle function.
- Build strong bones. Have your bone density checked. Because once you lose your bone density, you cannot reverse it and you maybe prone to bone fractures that may lead to long-term problems with joints or permanent deformity. Or, worse, death. To build your bones strong, maintain an ideal weight, eat healthy, do strength training exercises, consume enough protein, high-calcium food, take vitamins D and K, and avoid falls.
- Give love a chance. Yes, don’t be preoccupied with work or career, fall in love and marry the one. According to researchers, people who are in love and get married are more likely to live longer than their single counterparts. This is because of social and economic support and happiness people feel when they are in a loving relationship. They also tend to take care of themselves to spend more time with their significant others. The study added that even couples who are separated or widowed have a low death rate compared to their single friends, according to webmd.
So, is there really a limit to human lifespan? No one knows for sure. Well, until the day has come.
