OAKLAND — Kyle Lacanlale of San Ramon, CA made his professional and hometown boxing debut versus Michael Hernandez of Banning, CA and he did so with a knockout win just one minute into the first round of a scheduled 4-round bout.
The bout was part of “The Showdown in the Town” boxing card held at the Oakland Marriott City Center. The Main Event was the hometown debut of rising star Amari Jones who defeated Daniel Echeverria by third round KO.
Lacanlale landed an overhand right just seconds into that bout that stunned Hernandez.
Lacanlale then walked Hernandez into a corner and unleashed a dazzling display of speed and power, finishing Hernandez with a left hook to the body that sent him to his knees. The referee stopped the fight at 1:59 of the first round raising the partisan crowd to its feet.
Lacanlale fought in front of a large contingent of locals supporters including his father, Lyndon, who worked his corner.
“To be able to fight in Oakland, in front of my family and friends, and then to finish in a first round KO was exciting, and no other way to do it than like that” Lacanlale said after the fight.
Training out of the Lion’s Den (Pittsburg, CA), he turned pro in November 2023 after a distinguished amateur career. After this impressive start, Lacanlale looks to continue the momentum with another fight in the near future. Follow his boxing journey on Instagram: @kyle.lacanlale
