Daly City, CA (April 9, 2024) – At a Special Meeting on April 1, 2024, the Daly City City Council appointed Teresa Proaño after interviewing ten candidates for the vacancy. Mayor Juslyn C. Manalo, Vice Mayor Roderick Daus-Magbual, and Councilmember Glenn R. Sylvester voted in favor of Ms. Proaño’s appointment.
Teresa Proaño is a lifelong Daly City resident where she and her husband raised three children and are currently enjoying being grandparents to their six grandchildren. Teresa has been a longstanding volunteer dedicated to community and civic service for over 35 years, serving in many capacities, including Chair of the Daly City Planning Commission, former Chair of the Daly City Recreation Commission, Member of the Daly City Host Lions Club, Board Member of the Daly City Colma Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of the Daly City Public Library Associates, and Chair of the Skyline College President’s Council, to name a few. Teresa has also worked in Daly City for the last 25 years.
Teresa humbly steps into this role to serve her community and looks forward to collaborating with her new colleagues on the City Council to continue to make Daly City a better place to live, work, and visit. As a Hispanic woman of Mexican and Spanish descent, Teresa is proud to represent her heritage, but more importantly, she is proud to serve the entire Daly City community.
“The City was intentional and transparent posting the City Council Vacancy widely, and we were fortunate to receive so many qualified candidates for the open seat—it is amazing to see how many community members want to serve Daly City,” said Mayor Juslyn C. Manalo. “Our appointee Ms. Proaño has been a tremendous, dedicated servant of the Daly City community for decades, and I look forward to working alongside her on the City Council!”
“I commend all the candidates for having the courage to participate in the process to fill the vacant City Council seat,” said Vice Mayor Roderick Daus-Magbual. “It was a privilege to nominate Teresa Proaño, and I am grateful that the majority of my colleagues agreed that she would be a valuable member of this Council and advocate for our community.”
“I have seen the work Ms. Proaño has done in the community,” said Councilmember Glenn R. Sylvester. “What stood out to me in her interview is that she said not only can she be a team player, but she also believes she has a duty to listen, to find out, to see value, and to serve the community.”
Teresa Proaño was sworn in at the Regular City Council Meeting on April 8, 2024.
