SANTA CLARA — The Seattle Seahawks defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 20-17, in a hard fought NFC West showdown.
With Seattle trailing by four points and just under three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Geno Smith led the Seahawks in an impressive drive capped off by a 13-yard touchdown run with regulation 12 seconds remaining.
The San Francisco 49ers dropped to 5-5 this year following their 20-17 loss to Seattle Seahawks in week 11.
In a tight division race, the red and gold now have matching 5-5 record with the Rams and Seahawks, however they trail both in the standings when it comes to NFC wins.
Brock Purdy connected on 21 of 28 pass attempts for 159 yards, a touchdown and an interception in his sixth start against the Seahawks. Purdy ran up the right sideline and stretched out for the pylon to get the 49ers out in front in the final minutes of the first half.
The loss to divisional rival Seattle Seahawks left many in San Francisco stunned, including the talented quarterback Brock Purdy. However, the former Iowa player knows that from now on, they must focus week by week and not look beyond Green Bay if they want to achieve success.
A victory next away game is crucial to keep their playoff hopes alive.
